Red Waldorf Cake

    INGREDIENTS:
  • 2 Eggs
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 oz red food coloring (1/4 cup)
  • 2 ¼ cups sifted cake FLOUR OR 2 CUPS Sifted all purpose flour
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 ½ cups of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • Creamy frosting
    DIRECTIONS:
  • 1. allow eggs to stand at room temp for 30 minutes.
  • While greasing two 9X11/2 round pans, stir together the cocoa powder and red food coloring
  • in another bowl stir flour and salt together
  • 2. in a large mixing bowl beat shortening with an electric mixer on med or high speed for 30 seconds add sugar and vanilla beat until well combined
  • add eggs one at a time beating at medium or high speed add cocoa mixture while beating in and than the flour mixture and than the buttermilk beat at low speed until combined
  • stir vinegar and baking soda together and add to batter mixing until combined.
  • Pour batter into prepared pans
  • 3. Bake in 350 deg F oven for 30 to 35 minutes,
  • Or until wooden tooth pick comes out clean..
  • 4. when done let cake cool in pans for 10 minutes
  • remove cake from pan and let cool completely on wire rack
  • frost with a creamy frosting cover and store in fridge for up to 3 days.
